Dr. Emily

Medical Director, Veterinarian

Dogster is so thrilled to have Dr. Hays as part of our team. After working with us occasionally for about 5 years, she is excited to now be with us on a more regular basis here in Durango.

Dr. Hays graduated in 2008 from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, in the Caribbean islands, completing her clinical year at Washington State University. Returning to Colorado after graduation, she began to focus on spay and neuter as well as shelter medicine, and also general practice. Over the last 12 years Dr. Hays has focused on shelter medicine, animal welfare, building a great passion for spay and neuter.

After a long spell in her career as Medical Director and Chief Veterinarian of a large Metro Denver animal shelter, Dr. Hays is now taking a step in a different direction to use her skills and expertise to help focus on more rural regions with spay and neuter and general preventative care efforts. Dr. Hays often travels back and forth between the mountain states providing relief coverage for shelters, spay/neuter clinics and veterinary practices. This new opportunity with the D-SNIP team will be a time for her to also enjoy a more healthy work life balance in the beautiful Animas River Valley. You may see her out, usually with her dog Bunny, doing some hiking, snowshoeing, yoga, snowboarding, or just out enjoying a beer.
